The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme joins some 4,000 Clubs nationwide in adopting the new tagline “Great Futures Start Here” later this fall. Launched by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the tagline reflects the nationwide initiative addressing student dropout rates. Clubs across the country will align their program offerings into three major areas – academic success, good character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. The ultimate goal is to measure outcomes and curb the escalating high school dropout rate. The new tagline replaces “The Positive Place For Kids,” which was used for nearly 20 years.

The new tagline is derived from BGCA’s BE GREAT brand campaign, launched in 2008. It communicates the totality of the Club experience and its impact on youth, families and communities like Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. “This tagline focuses on the fact that our Boys & Girls Club is a community-based facility with a proven track record of helping young people who have the least, and need the most, to achieve a great future. Our Club has always provided the hope and opportunity that kids need to dream big,” said Tim Blaylock, BGCOP’s chief professional officer.

“Our goal is simple to state, but hard to achieve, unless the entire nation understands and responds to this dropout crisis,” said Denzel Washington, a Club alumnus who has served as the organization’s national spokesperson for 18 years. “We want to help every Boys & Girls Club member advance to the next grade level every year, and graduate from high school on time, prepared with the attitude, knowledge and confidence to achieve their full potential. It’s what we mean by ‘Great Futures Start Here.’”
