This week I spoke with a group of about forty young men at the Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme offers a Targeted Re-Entry Program in the facility which assists young offenders in re-entering their communities successfully and productively. On the invitation of the Club I spent an hour with the young men, ages 13-18, sharing my own experiences growing up in that area and offering some advice and encouragement for pursuing their positive goals.

The young men were terrific. Respectful, engaging and asked great questions. I left inspired. Whether my visit had a positive impact, I can only hope. I am certain, though, that the Boys and Girls Club is making an enormous difference in the lives of the young people in that facility and in the community itself. The dedication and competence of the staff is palpable and they are doing extraordinary work.

Bohemian Brand, my little clothing enterprise, is supporting their efforts by contributing $5 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme for every shirt sold. If you’ve thought of purchasing a shirt, I hope you’ll do so. Or, forgo the shirt and contribute directly to the Boys and Girls Club in your community. It’s an utterly worthwhile investment.
