Boys & Girls Club’s 9th Annual It Just Takes One Breakfast

Posted in Uncategorized by BGCOP Staff on April 5, 2011

Local businesses can support character and leadership development of community youth through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme’s 9th Annual It Just Takes One Breakfast from 7 – 9 a.m., April 28 at Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge in Oxnard. Corporate sponsors are being sought for the event, which will feature a keynote address by Dr. Stuart Brown, psychiatrist and author of Play, a book detailing the positive impact of play on people’s lives. Special MC will be youth mentor 2011 Miss Washington Jacquie Brown.

Sponsorship benefits include corporate recognition at the event and a table of priority seating. This year’s Gold Sponsors include Sysco of Ventura, Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs Association, The Gas Company and Bunnin Automotive Group. Silver Sponsors are Verizon, DMI and Southern California Edison.

This year’s It Just Takes One Campaign honorary campaign chair is Carmen Ramos-Soriano. The breakfast is the culmination of the campaign, in which the club encourages residents to help bridge the gap between membership fees and program costs. The 2011 campaign goal is to raise $150,000 for providing the quality programs and services to more than 7,400 children and their families throughout the Oxnard Plain. Families pay $15 per year to become members of the club; the club pays the remaining $500 per year in program fees for each child. It’s money well spent, as members of the BGCOP have higher graduation rates and lower teen pregnancy and crime rates than area youth, resulting in a 400 percent return on donor investments.

“It just takes one person to make an incredible difference in a child’s life,” said Tim Blaylock, chief professional officer, BGCOP. “Through gifts of any size, we can ensure our children have a solid foundation so they can resist today’s peer pressures and take on tomorrow’s leadership roles.”
