Seabees renovate Boys & Girls Club in Hueneme

The gloomy main playroom of the Boys & Girls Club of America in Port Hueneme, with its dark red and black checkerboard floor, is now light, bright and cheery thanks to the work of local Seabees and supplies donated by civic leaders.

Over several days in May, Seabees from Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, installed a new tile floor and baseboard and recoated and repainted the walls to give the room a completely new look. They also retiled the kitchen area and a floor near a back entrance.

Staffer earns full scholarship through youth club

Kara Brown traveled the world helping teenagers before she landed in Oxnard.

Although she misses the adventures from nearly a decade of traveling, she sees her work at the Boys & Girls Club on West Fifth Street as an extension of the advocacy she did in India, Kenya and Cambodia.

“Oxnard youth invited to new and exciting summer camps”

OXNARD, Calif.— In order to better serve the community, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme have revamped their Summer Day Camp program to be more engaging, exciting, and positive for youth in the area. Youth will be invited to participate in age-specific programming during 10-weeks of themed camps. Themes include National Geographic, Weird Science, Adventure week, Around the World, Super Soakers, Back the Badge, and more! During each week, youth will engage in fun curriculum about the theme, participate in multiple fieldtrips, and interact with guest speakers that are sure to get them wanting more!
