Empowering youth and changing lives

Posted in Uncategorized by BGCOP Staff on March 12, 2013

Efrain was an unemployed, high school dropout struggling with substance abuse issues when he joined the Club’s Youth Empowerment Program. The program not only helped him get his GED, it taught him the skills he needed to get his life back on track and succeed.

YEP offers young people like Efrain, the necessary training and skills to excel in the workplace with a job ready program for high school students, a job ready accelerated program for youth out of high school and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Program, which is offered to high school seniors interested in starting a business. (YEP’s job ready program is offered at Channel Islands, Hueneme, Pacifica and Oxnard high schools.)

While in the program, Efrain hit a rough patch and become homeless. Through support and assistance he received at the Club, he obtained a full-time job and found a place to live. Today, he enjoys his job and likes the satisfaction it gives him.

Since YEP’s launch in 2004, more than 1,100 youth have taken part in the program.
