Club teens learning to cook, make dinners for rest of members once a week

Getting kids interested in cooking and creating healthy meals – those are some of the goals the new chef of the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center has for her weekly cooking class at THE CLUB. Tina Stetson, 27, a native of Ventura, will teach teen club members how to prepare a very well balanced, healthy dinner for the rest of the kids to eat every Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:30.

Tina, who has had a passion for culinary arts ever since high school, owns her own small business, Prepped Plate, that home delivers pre-prepped meals containing local and organic ingredients. She brings this farm-to-table theory to the Club and hopes to pass on basic cooking skills and health eating habits to teens in her kitchen.

“Healthy eating habits are so important. I really want to help educate people to make better food choices and use their local farmers and artisans,” Tina said. “With the funding for the Culinary Arts program at the teen center, I am able to feed kids healthier meals and get them interested in being in the kitchen.”

Cooking classes have already begun; enrollment is ongoing. There will be 6-8 students in a class. For more information on the program, contact 805-483-1118.
