Why are  BGCOP programs so critical to our community’s children and families?

When students hear the bell ring at 3 p.m., it signals the end of the school day and, for many, the start of an afternoon without supervision, without productive activities and without direction. Boys & Girls Clubs afterschool and summer learning programs fill the invaluable role of providing essential services—such as a safe and supervised environment, academically enriching activities, healthy snacks and meals, and caring and supportive mentors—to children and families most in need of support. The need for these afterschool and summer learning programs is especially vital in African-American and Latino communities, communities that are experiencing higher levels of poverty, homelessness and food insecurity, and are facing disparities in education and access to extracurricular activities.

Beyond keeping kids safe

Today’s Boys & Girls Clubs programs have moved far beyond the mission to keep kids safe. They are at the forefront of educational innovation – creating school, community and faith-based partnerships to bring resources, caring adults and exciting curricula to children after school.

Engaging activities

Because programs are voluntary, children have to want to come, so engagement and motivation are paramount. Whether students are building solar-powered box cars, providing services to the elderly, or developing a computer program to record their own songs, afterschool programs enable students to learn through fun, hands-on, engaging activities.

A growing research base shows that Boys & Girls Club programs work. Students in afterschool programs are more likely to come to school, stay in school and graduate. They show improvement on engagement as well as academic, behavioral and professional skills.

How can you make a difference?

It is time for everyone to step forward and give students the gift of productive activities and direction to help young people reach their full potential. No matter how you participate, you can help kids find their path to a great future!

Believe in Youth

Believe in Youth is an important program designed to sponsor children who participate in the life-changing programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Sponsoring our members keeps them off the streets, and involved in positive life-affirming programs. Kids in difficult family circumstances can connect with positive role models, learn how to use computers, develop good citizenship or just have some healthy fun at one of our 18 sites.

A donation of $500 sponsors one child’s participation in positive programming at a Boys & Girls Club for an entire year! A $2,000 donation will provide a year of fun, educational programming for four youth. Research has shown for every dollar we invest early on in a child’s life more than $16 is reinvested into the community.

Please click here to donate. If you’d like to mail your contribution, please make checks payable to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, 1900 West 5th Street, Oxnard, CA, 93030. Your donation is fully tax-deductible.

Plan a Fundraiser

Golf tournaments, bowling championships, casino nights, neighborhood garage sales! Events planned by the community are a fun way to raise vital funds for BGCOP. Whatever your fundraising idea, contact Kelly Ventimiglia at 805-815-4959 x 205 and become a helping hand in your community.

Planned Giving

A planned gift from your estate is one of the best ways to create a lasting legacy of support. A contribution from your estate ensures that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme will support our community’s youth for years –and generations– to come.
