Dear Friends:

As we enter into the “Season of Thankfulness and Giving,” I would like to share with you what we are thankful for here at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. We are most thankful for the opportunity to have served the kids who need us most for the last 60 years.

  • We are thankful for our members. They are so full of energy and life. Each day they come to the Club, they arrive with eyes wide with wonder — ready to learn, play, be mentored and guided by our staff.
  • We are thankful for our community. Our community is caring and invested in ensuring positive outcomes for youth and families in our community.
  • We are thankful for our staff. They are patient and kind. They demonstrate for our members good character and leadership skills. As mentors for our young people, they lead by example.
  • We are thankful for our volunteers. They give their time, talent and treasure, for which we are genuinely grateful.
  • We are thankful for our life-changing programs. Our programs engage our members, and reinforce and enhance what our members learn in their school day and provide opportunities for kids to engage in healthy lifestyles and learn good character and citizenship.

This is an important time of year–when we reflect on our blessings, and our appreciation for those who are important in our lives. We also look at the lives of those around us — who can benefit from our support.

The cost to offer youth engaging experiences that emphasize academics and positive social skills is just $20 a year; however, the cost to us is over $500 per member. We serve 9,400 youth in our community, and we never turn away a young person due to financial hardship.

We help lessen the academic achievement gap by providing quality afterschool programs, year-round; in the summer and on non-school days. We get kids moving and thinking about good nutrition, and good personal choices through healthy lifestyles programs. We teach kids good character and citizenship, and engage them in their communities so they learn and appreciate the value of giving back. We exist to provide programs and services to the young people who need us most.

Through the years, the philanthropic commitment of the community has made a difference for our organization, and individually touched the lives of our members who needed the safety of our clubhouses, the encouragement from our staff, and the fellowship of their peers.

We have a lot to be thankful for here at the Boys & Girls Club, and together we are making a difference! We are looking forward to another 60 years of creating new beginnings and bright futures for the youth in our community who need us the most.

I appreciate all of you!

Erin Reardon Antrim
