Outstanding Service in the Juvenile Justice System

Kenny Plummer, the Club’s program director, received an award for outstanding service by the Juvenile Justice/Delinquency Prevention Commission at their awards ceremony Oct. 6.

Kenny, who has been with the Club three years, is running the newly developed Evening Reporting Center program at the Teen Center. “These are teens who got themselves into some trouble and have been mandated by the courts to be here,” explained Kenny. “Thanks to reliable and dependable staff, most of our teens graduate from the program and come back as Club members. We’re really making a difference in their lives.”

In this last year, Kenny says 62 teens have been referred to the Club and more than 50 percent graduated from the program. The Club has been able to retain 70 percent of those youth who have come back to the Teen Center as members.

Kenny says the Teen Center staff has played a key role in the high retention numbers. The Club gives youth a sense of hope and encouragement.

“He has a special way of dealing with the youth who need us most,” said Erin Antrim, chief executive officer, BGCOP. “He has high expectations for the kids and is very passionate about their positive development and showing them alternatives to the path they are going down.”

The program is doing well, added Kenny, who says it is data driven, has a good motto and continues to grow. The Evening Reporting Center is a partnership with Ventura County Probation and BGCOP.
