Ten children from Rio Real and Rio Plaza elementary schools received a surprise Dec. 19, when Robert Mann Packaging Inc. staff presented them with new bikes, helmets and bike locks. The children thought they were going on a field trip to see how boxes were made; instead, they were surprised with a special luncheon held in their honor. Each bike was delivered by Santa Claus and came with a personalized license plate.

“This was a wonderful surprise for our Club members,” said Kelly Ventimiglia, director of major gifts and annual giving. “Most of these kids have never owned a bike before. To be nine and getting training wheels on a bike really speaks volumes to the need. We truly appreciate the generosity of Robert Mann Packaging.”

In a joint sponsorship with Limoneira in Santa Paula, Robert Mann Packaging raised funds for the bike equipment through a raffle, donations from various vendors they partner with and donations from employees, customers and friends. Together, they raised $3,000 for bicycles and equipment, Robert Mann Packaging made a separate $500 donation to the Club.

Nearly 65 Robert Mann Packaging employees attended the special luncheon and bike presentation.

The children who received the bikes are part of the afterschool programs at Rio Plaza and Rio Real. They were selected based on good behavior, being former student of the month recipients and meeting the 15 hours-a-week attendance requirement.

The list of kids receiving bikes, helmets, and locks included the following: From Rio Real Elementary School: Samuel Martinez, Gabriela Diego, Sandra Torralba, Natalia Pinzon and Roberto Ramirez. From Rio Plaza Elementary School: Samuel Juarez-Galbez, Osvaldo Mendoza, Eduardo Gonzales, Sofia Martinez and Mirella Toledano.
