For many Nyeland Acres youth, the Club’s Nyeland Acres Community Center facility is the only nearby place that offers a safe, positive environment where they can hang out after school and Saturdays. Opening as a community center in September 2014, it offers programs to 150 youth in grades 1-12, with a daily attendance of 65 youth. Services are offered Monday-Friday from 2-6. Kids enjoy the Center’s athletic programs on Saturdays.

The 1,200 square-foot Center is also home to First 5 and MICOP.

The Center is able to offer national and local Boys & Girls Club programs and special initiatives in core areas due to recent grant funding from Oxnard College.

Oxnard College donated $55,000 to the Club for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs. They also donated 40 computers and to enhance programs and services, like mentoring, skill tutor, science projects, healthy lifestyles and youth leadership training.

A $15,000 grant from the Ventura County Probation Agency for the Club is in process. The money will go toward staffing, mentorship and delinquency prevention.

Students at Club Nyeland are offered a wide range of services, including athletics, life skills classes, Voices of Hope music program, arts and design groups, community service programs, Signs in Motion sign language performance teams, reading clubs, science groups and more.
