cjCJ Juarez, age 18

CJ came to the Club because she had to, not because she wanted to. Her goal was to get by with minimum participation and leave after two weeks. That was two years ago. Teen Center Director Cody Bowen changed her mind by showing her the possibilities and opportunities that were at the Club. CJ didn’t know what college was, but quickly learned through the College Bound and Keystone programs that she could achieve more than a high school diploma. She did her homework at the Club, played sports and created art. (Her 3-D lion has been named one of the top Boys & Girls Clubs fine art pieces in the nation.) This poised young woman with bright smile is now a student at Oxnard College.

“When I grow up, I want to be a high school English teacher,” says CJ.
